"The perpetrator with the initials AG was arrested while on the run in East Kalimantan. There was only one perpetrator," said South Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Yudhiawan during a press conference at the South Sulawesi Police Headquarters, Makassar, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 as reported by Antara.
This case began with the discovery of a woman's body in a ravine at a depth of 15 meters in Sampuraga Hamlet, Kasintuwu Village, Trans Sulawesi Road, Mangkutana District, East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi on November 13, 2024.
The East Luwu Police Team then evacuated the victim and identified a case of alleged theft and violence that caused the victim's death.
From the autopsy results, the body had decomposed with her death approximately four days before the autopsy. Bruises were found on the head, bruises on the breasts, abrasions and bruises on the waist and thighs, and a tear in the hymen accompanied by bruises and abrasions.
Chronology of the incident on November 11, 2024, at that time the victim JS was picked up by the perpetrator AG and his friends with the initials S and E from Palopo City, South Sulawesi, on their way to Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi in a black Avanza car.
However, that evening, the victim and the perpetrator stopped at S's house and asked his son to pick up a white Toyota Calya car at E's house. At 20.30 WITA, after exchanging cars, the perpetrator took the victim to Marowali Regency, and only the two of them were in the car.
On the way at around 01.30 WITA in the Mangkutana area, the perpetrator saw the victim sleeping with her clothes pulled up so that her stomach was visible. The perpetrator was lustful and invited the victim to have sex and even offered Rp. 200 thousand, but the victim refused.
Because he was lustful, the perpetrator continued to think about how to have sex with the victim. Still on the way, at around 02.00 WITA, the perpetrator suddenly stopped the car in the Gunung Kayulangi area, Mangkutana, East Luwu, claiming he was going to urinate.
When he stopped, the perpetrator opened the back door and entered the car, pressing down on her thighs and strangling her neck while covering her mouth until she was helpless, then raped her. After committing his depraved act, the perpetrator returned to the front seat.
The victim then said she would report it to the police station, then got out of the car and sat on the asphalt, the road conditions at that time were quiet. The perpetrator approached and strangled her until she could not breathe, then died. The perpetrator then took the victim's gold earrings and her cellphone.
"The victim threatened to report it to the police, finally the perpetrator panicked and strangled the victim to death. Before disposing of the victim's body, the perpetrator took her belongings including (a cellphone) iPhone 7, then threw her body into the bottom of a ravine and fled," said the police chief.
The perpetrator fled to the Kalimantan region. On November 19, 2024, a joint team from the East Luwu Criminal Investigation Unit together with the Regional Police Mobile Brigade assisted by the East Kalimantan Regional Police Mobile Brigade and the Samarinda Police Jatanras arrested him in Kampung Timor, Badak Baru Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan.
"This began with sexual violence against the victim. The articles are suspected of being layered, namely Article 338 of the Criminal Code or Article 365 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code or Article 6 letter B in conjunction with, Article 15 in conjunction with letter O number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence, or Article 351 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 15 years in prison," he said.
